How A Private Buyer Can Still Find A Bargain At A Car Dealer Auction

A car dealer auction can be a good place for a private individual to source their own vehicle, and it can also be a good place for a commercial operation to secure its fleet. Car dealer auctions have traditionally been exactly that, auctions for car dealers. In the decades gone by, there were very few private individuals who found their way into these auctions. This was not usually due to any strictly enforced rule keeping them out, but merely due to the fact that very few members of the public knew the events were taking place.

Now, many vehicle auctions have a far higher profile. They have been featured extensively in business opportunity magazines, because they are an easy sell for people who publish such magazines. There will always be the odd isolated incident where a vehicle fetches a price comfortably below that which was expected. Publishers can latch onto this, and cite it as an example, conveniently omitting the fact that it was a one off incident and is extremely unlikely to happen again.

Nevertheless, there are still many bargains to be had at car dealer auctions. Relatively few of the vehicles which are on offer at these sales have come from private individuals. The vast majority of them have been put up for auction simply because the organizations who have seized them will lose money and time by having to store and maintain them. Some of these vehicles will be top of the range models, and many of them will be nearly new.

Many of the modern car auctions also a run a car auction site. These auctions have seen the success of online auctions such as eBay, and have decided to start their own operation. The auction site gives a totally different type of bidding environment, but one which demands no less discipline. If you in a room on your own, then there is nothing or no one to control your behavior other than your own discipline. On the other hand, there is not the same frenzied atmosphere that you can get in an auction room when people are bidding against each other.

These car dealer auctions can be good places to pick up cheap vehicles, but you do need to be very careful. The vast majority of vehicles sold at these auctions are used vehicles, and they need to be inspected very carefully. If you do not have sufficient mechanical experience to make an informed judgment as to the state of a vehicle, try to bring along someone with more experience. If the vehicle has been put into auction by experienced dealer, there may well be cosmetic cover up of certain mechanical faults. Failing to diagnose these could result in you making a very expensive mistake. Provided you can carry out a good enough inspection, and show the required discipline, you could do well at a car dealer auction.
