How To Save Money And Support Worthy Causes By Bidding At A Charity Car Auction

A charity car auction will operate in primarily the same way as an auction run for any other purpose, but the proceeds will be going to worthy causes. Most of the principles which you would need to follow to succeed at standard auctions will still apply to those being run for charity. It will still be your responsibility to carry out the necessary inspection of the vehicle, as the maxim of buyer beware will definitely still apply. The buyer will have no legal recourse should the seller have masked faults with the vehicle.

Unlike standard car auctions, most of the cars being sold will have been put in to the auction by private sellers. In most auctions, cars are being offloaded by either government authorities or financial institutions. Some of the vehicles will have been used for criminal activity, but the vast majority will have been seized from private individuals or businesses who could need maintain their regular payments. While financial institutions are reluctant to repossess vehicles as it involves them in the process of having to resell the vehicle, there are times when they have no alternative.

A charity car auction will normally not have these vehicles, but will have private vehicles which have been put up for sale. This means that the vehicles will always have previous owners, and many of them will not be in the best of condition, However much you want to support the charity involved, it is important to look after yourself first. Do not get caught in the trap of sentiment, and forsake the necessary inspection of the vehicle.

The bidding process at a charity auction will be fundamentally the same as the bidding process at a standard motor auction, but you can expect the pace to be slightly more leisurely. The auction will probably be being run by well meaning amateurs rather than trained professionals who can operate at high speed. If you are experienced at motor auctions, you should be able to cope without any trouble. If you are not, you should find it easier than a standard motor auction, but still be prepared to get there early to get a feel of the auction before you bid.

The one factor which a charity auction may have which will not be found anywhere else is the well meaning amateur who is prepared to pay over the odds for a vehicle just because of their fervent support for the charity. Although a charity auction will have the same printed brochure with estimated values, these values are likely to be prone to a greater deviation than usual. If you are intent on making a sensible financial purchase, you will need to be prepared to pull out of any bidding war between enthusiasts of the charity. Set your maximum bid in stone by writing it down, and do not deviate from it. This will prevent you from making an expensive mistake at your charity car auction.
